I'm actually kind of sad that I don't own many of these games as cartridges, namely Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, and Chrono Trigger. I know you can still get them on download with emulators and crap, but there's some inexplicable awesomeness to playing them on your console hooked up to your tv rather than on your computer.
Overral, I mostly agree with the selections, though I would definitely add Rock n' Roll Racing to the list, and I would probably rearrange the placings. Yoshi's Island would get demoted, and I would move Starfox and Super Castlevania closer to the #1 spot. I would probably also swap Zelda 3 for Super Metroid, but it's really close... Super Metroid was really flippin' awesome. |

Man I am so wrapped up in this series of Jaspion.
Jaspion is a japanese series part of this "metal man" franchise that aired in Brazil when I was a kid.
But seriously, it is awesome! Jaspion is a champion of justice!
you see, Jaspion who was raised by the Galactic Prophet Eijin in some crazy planet is sent to Earth when Eijin reads the Galactic Bible and discovers that when the Evil SatanGoss awakens, the universe will be destroyed. Along with the android Anri and Mia (a weird alien thing they meet along the way), Jaspion heads across the galaxy to stop SatanGoss and the Megabeast empire!
Every episode has the same formulaic set up:
Something mysterious is happening and our hero, Jaspion must investigate. It is always the handiwork of MacGaren (Jaspion's nemesis and servant of SatanGoss), part of some plot to conquer Earth and subjugate the universe under the command of evil SatanGoss and the Megabeast Empire. The plot always involves a different Megabeast, who usually has unique powers (though not always).
Jaspion will fight MacGaren, rescue whoever needs rescuing, save the day. But then, it's not over yet! SatanGoss will appear and shoot these red energy rays out of his eyes - RAYS OF PURE EVIL!
The rays will hit the Megabeast du jour, and it will then become enraged. The announcer will ALWAYS say "The Evil SatanGoss has the power to enrage beings, turning them into uncontrollable monsters!" As if you need a reminder - he does it EVERY episode!
Now is the awesome finale of the show - Jaspion will call his Super Space Battle Mothership, Daileon. He will leap to the controls and say "Giant Warrior, Daileon!" and the Spaceship will turn into a fucking giant mecha, the glorious Invincible Galactic Giant Space Mechawarrior Daileon! Daileon will then proceed to WHOOP THE EVERLIVING CRAP out of the monster. 9 times out of 10 it's no contest, Daileon just merciless pounds on the monster and then, when Jaspion is tired of taking his aggressions out on the helpless beast, will finish him off with the Cosmic Crash technique's double punches.
Then, we have some nice falling action where Jaspion checks on the people he saved and the show reminds you that although everything has been resolved for now, SatanGoss and MacGaren are still out there, plotting against Jaspion!
This shit is SO AWESOME.
This is Jaspion (the white armor dude) and Macgaren (the black armor dude). Here Jaspion is protecting that chick not taking her hostage. JASPION IS DAMN HERO HE DOESN'T TAKE HOSTAGES. The two swordfight with their Super Galactic Swords in their Mettallex suits all the time. They also have veihicles that they use to battle each other.
For example, Ironwolf, Jaspion's Space Motorcycle, a "Super Planet Machine"
I can't find a picture of MacGaren's VTOL-6, but he has a six-legged insect-like Super Battle Spaceship Cruiser.
This is Daileon battling against the archnemesis of all that is holy himself, the Evil SatanGoss. SatanGoss is the one that looks like a giant Darth Vader. Daileon is the one that looks AWESOME and also like a cheap no-name brand toy you got at a flea market when you were 9 and it didn't even work right.
Without his armor, SatanGoss looks more Cthulian, but I can't find a pic.
I can't find a japanese episode with English subtitles to post, because no one gave a shit about this show except Brazil (not even Japan),so all the eps are dubbed in portuguese. But I found this pretty cool video of MacGaren and Jaspion in battle, although it would be cool if it included some of their fights on Ironwolf and the VTOL-6.

i really like the imagery in these videos by O Rappa. The streets, the poor electric lighting, the architecture of the buildings, the clothes that people wear... it's very nostalgic for me. i look at these images, and i feel like that's the world that makes sense; that's the world where i'm supposed to be.
